Hot Chocolate Mix

I tried a recipe for hot cocoa mix before Christmas and it… wasn’t too good. I tried to doctor it a bit and gave some to my fiance. To his credit, he tried it more than once, but it really just wasn’t what either of us look for in hot chocolate. I need sweet and chocolatey! It also made like 4 cups of mix and even as much as I kept trying to modify it, that’s too much even if it’s a good mix. I decided tonight to make up my own recipe (after looking up some other recipes and merging some ideas) and it’s amazing! I may still tweak this a little, but here it is for now.

Makes: About 1.5 c hot chocolate mix


3/4 c nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
3.5 oz milk chocolate bar


1. Cool the chocolate bar (any brand such as Lindt, Godiva, Ghiradelli) in the fridge.

2. Using a food processor’s grater (such as you would use for cheese), grate the chocolate bar. Switch to the blade (that sits inside the bowl). Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until well mixed.

3. Add to water to taste.


You can use milk, but you do have dry milk powder, so it isn’t necessary. It will probably be about 3 Tbsp mix for 6 oz water, but mix to your taste.
